Memorizing Phone Numbers of Yesterday VS Technology today.

Recently, I have made a realization that has been in my mind for a few days now. How we used to keep in touch with phones, technology of today VS. memorizing phone numbers from yesterday and the past.

In the 80’s and 90’s and before that in 1876 when Alexander Graham Bell invented the telephone, we had paper address books, and as well as a phone numbers list stuck on our fridge doors. Before cell phones, we had to memorize numbers, a huge directory book of phone numbers and contacts would appear in front of our doorstep to find people to call them.

You had to really memorize numbers or else, how else would you be able to contact somebody? Before, it wasn’t easy when people weren’t home and couldn’t contact them until they got home. So people would call a few times. When parties, functions, meetings and all that took place, it would be difficult to let people know they will be late. Calling them at home didn’t make the difference. Sometimes people wouldn’t show up and all night they worry about what happens.

People used to use corded phones to the wall, so they would be stuck in the room and playing with the cord while talking on the phone. I am sure in today’s world, there still are corded phones in the homes because if in case the electricity goes out, you have a backup and also your cell phone. Well until the battery runs out. So I sure hope you remember some phone numbers. It is important.

How did people go without all the technology to communicate? How about when there was no caller I.D? Nobody would know who is calling. I think Prank callers had a lot of fun back then using payphones to trick people and annoy them. How about when people used to carry a phone address book with them in their bags?

Nowadays, with smartphones and technology, there is no need to write numbers anymore.  People are so connected to their phones and now the art of calling people is slim to none and people are more involved in text messaging so that they can have time to organize their thoughts, instead of speaking directly to someone on the phone. It has become such a norm.

I am pretty sure there are still people in this world today who still recognizes and memorize phone numbers. It is important to have things on paper too, so as if one day your smartphone is on its last mission to serve you, at least you have backup.

Memorize phone numbers that you regularly text and call. Use and address book to put them in. You never know what happens to your phone. You can lose your contact list and then somehow get on a computer to send status messages on Facebook letting people know “I’ve lost all my contacts, please send me your phone numbers again”. I have see and heard about that so many times.

If it ever comes to a point where you need a phone number and cannot remember it on a rainy day, it will actually be really bad.

How many of you remember your friends numbers? Do you know your boyfriend, fiancé, or husbands, or girlfriend, wife,  cousins or even your parents numbers by heart? If you do not, then its time you do.

We cannot let technology and contact lists in our phones do all the work for us, that we don’t need to remember anything, its in our phones. Nobody should think that way. People really need to think about it. We need to upgrade our minds and educate it and learn the skill to memorize things.

So, I wouldn’t be so dependent on technology and go for the greater technology we were born with… Our brains. There is nothing that technology has that will even be a fraction or come close to than our brain in our bodies..

Android VS. Apple — The difference. – In My opinion

Do not take offense to it if you are heavily into iPhone, but it is just what I have noticed. I began to dissect the difference between the two. So far Android is the winner.

~~ Android ~~

With Android phones, you can save photos, videos and files right to your computer backing it up easily with just hooking up your USB cable. You do not have to use iCloud or iTunes and always rely on them to always back up your contacts too. you have many more options of looking for apps and androids are more convenient to use and you have more options of buying different types of phones such as the Samsung, LG, HTC, Nexus, Also, to charge the battery you have options of using different types of charging ends on phones and cost less. I prefer android more than Apple in my opinion.

~~ Apple ~~

You must always use Apple products, downloading iTunes, iCloud, to always back up your photos, videos, music and other things. You cannot just directly hook up the USB to your computer and directly put the items in your documents. You are limited with the apps for apple. It is a lot more complicated to maneuver around the app, and they only have one type of charger. The ending of the chargers are a lot more flimsy and have to replace it often. Plus apple products are so much more costly. If you do not have Apple Care, then you are pretty much going to dig into your pocket a lot more. Also with that you have more of a chance to lose your contact information and photos if you make one small wrong move. Sorry, Siri

I am sticking to Android and will always be a loyal user. A lot better and easier to manage without all the sophisticated stuff, without hassle.

The CN Tower & I

I know it is kind of crazy to even write about this, but growing up as a child and into my lower teens, I was always obsessed and loved the CN Tower a lot. Being able to get up there 2-3 times around those times was something so exciting, being able to experience the observation deck, the glass floor to see down to the street. I would see it from the 401, the Gardiner Expressway, The CNE, and a lot of places around the City of Toronto and downtown. Even from my Grandmothers balcony.

I still know the facts about the CN Tower by heart. I know its a free-standing structure and one would ask, how can someone be obsessed with a tower?

Well, I have always been and always will be sentimental and these things were and still is a big deal for me. CN Tower is one of the most important structures and one of Toronto’s major icons and that makes our skyline what it is. Every time I see it, go near it, it makes me think of my childhood. I have still kept all of the CN Tower stuff I used to collect from magazines and everything. I once had CN Tower Staff mail me a huge package full of Pictures, Facts, Figures and everything back in the day. I am not sure if they still do that now, but if you inquire it, you can e-mail them or contact them here, http://www.cntower.ca/en-ca/contact-us/contact-us.html… I wrote them a letter which I was a kid and I got my package a few weeks later. It was awesome. I still have that too.
I will forever love my City of Toronto and the CN Tower.

You can go to the tower with friends, family, schools and spend a full day at the tower and enjoy the sights, sight-see from the top of the tower, you can observe Lake Ontario, see our major highway arteries, buildings from the north, south, east and west.

Here are some facts/figures about the CN Tower:

– It is located at 301 Front St W, Toronto, ON M5V 2T6 – In the heart of Downtown Toronto

– One of Ontario, Canada’s main attractions

– The height is 553 m which equals to 1,815 feet.

– It opened it’s doors in 1976

– it is 147 Stories high.

– It has been surpassed by the Burj Khalifa in Dubai

– John Andrews is the Architect of the Free Standing Structure.

– It is a marvel in civil Engineering

– There is an Antenna which broadcasts to over 30 fm/radio and television signals across Southern Ontario with an addition to wireless paging, cellular telephone service/signlas

– There is a restaurant called 360 and it is a revolving restaurant where it turns around in a circular motion.

– The CN Tower introduced a thrill called the Edgewalk, where you walk on the edge of the Tower up top and all that is holding you is a Harness. I have never tried it, but I would love to.

– The high speed elevator takes you up to the top in 58 seconds.

– There is the skypod, lookout level which is 33 more floors up

Time is Valuable – Courtesy and Punctuality Matter

In life, whether were invited to a restaurant gathering, parties, get togethers, catching a flight out,  even for school, work, a job interview, or anything that it could be, even a date, meeting up for coffee, punctuality and being early is very important. I know sometimes due to unforeseen circumstances it happens where people are late, or get caught up on something, the best thing to do is let others know who you will be meeting that you are running late. It is common courtesy and respectful. Your time is as valuable as the other peoples time. So it goes both ways.

Tips and Advice on how to manage time, to be early and punctual.

— Say you get invited to a restaurant for dinner at 7:30 and reservations have been made and you are there at 7 7:15, which is good to be early to respect other peoples time, then you see other arriving at 7:30 right on the dot, then you see late people arriving an hour later at 8:30. People are munching on Appetizers already because they waited long enough. — Respecting time is important and especially respecting other people in the process.

— Say you go to the airport and you arrive there at 3pm and your flight is at 6:30pm, which is great to be there 3 and a half hours before, but some people decide to show up at 4:30 or 5pm and flight is at 6:30, they think that they can be allowed boarding and they think that their luggage will make it to the plane. I do not think so. Respect the time given to be at the airport prior to departure and make it to your plane on time so others do not have to wait for that one or two people who decide to play around and not get to the gate on time.

— Never leave things to the last minute to get ready, to shower, to allow time to get ready after the shower. do it in advanced and start getting ready an hour or two before a party and also take into factor how long it will take to get to the venue from your place and get ready accordingly. You do not want to be one of those people who arrive to a party at 10 at night, when a party starts at 7. No matter what it is, its important to value time, manage time well, and do important things first then allocate enough time to do what is necessary. Be courteous no matter what it is.

— Job interviews, going to school and work on time is very important. Especially when you are going for a job interview. Be there about half an hour before or an hour before. get yourself prepared, and gather your thoughts. Always look at the time and get to places on time. It is very crucial to be punctual in everything in life.

— When you are invited to someones place at say 4pm on a Saturday, and agree to go, be there right at 4pm or about 10 minutes before. Every minute counts and they count on you to be on time. It is not nice to not show up at someones house at 6pm, without letting them know you will be late or something is going on that you cannot make it right at 4.

— A simple I cannot be there on time, or I have some things to take care of, or got pre-occupied with things should be mentioned to those waiting for you, they have every right to know. Time is of the essence. Calling, texting, e-mailing and always communicating is so imperative.

— Do not be a last minute RSVP person — If you get an invitation to a party, wedding, engagement, shower or other events 2-3 or 4 months in advanced, or just 2 months in advanced, and say the Card says shower is on July 31st, but your RSVP Reservation with the amount of persons in attendance must be due by July 10 or July 15th — but then have someone say they are attending on July 27th or 28th, just couple of days before is so wrong. You had all that time to decide. Do not just leave it as last minute. RESPOND as soon as possible —- It is money, and time were talking here. These people need to prepare and get numbers into the banquet halls or create the tables and how many plates to add… Be respectful. They did a great thing by including you, Help them in the process.

Some Quotes Found online in relative to this post:

“Arriving late is a way of saying that your own time is valuable than the time of the person who waited for you” — Karen Joy Fowler

“If you CANNOT be on time, Then be EARLY” — Unknown

“Life is getting up early in the morning to live a couple of hours more” — Unknown

Have you been a victim of a person who has stood you up? Have you been someone who is the one to always wait for others to be on time? Have people contacted you to say they will be late? Are you always the early one to arrive well in advanced because you have been taught to respect time and ones who have proper etiquette? It is always good to be like that.

—————————————————————————————————————————–

Do you have bad habits when it comes to procrastination? Do you have bad habits of being late because you had to do your hair and make-up? Do you have the bad habit to show up to a party 2-3 hours later knowing that everyone has already eaten, so you get the cold food after or they are going to have to make an extra batch for you to heat your food up, or have missed the beginning speeches or whatever it is? Change your bad habits, work on being courteous and on time. It saves a lot of problems with people depending on you.

Also do not say you will be there, and then not show up..

Punctuality is key to success in business, relationships, friendships which then builds trust and common decency. Best wishes and to better time management!

Smartphones and Tablets — Have They Taken Over Our Lives?

As mobile devices serve a good purpose in life to communicate with others with texting, calling, spending time with apps, and having fun with them, but there should be limits. I feel that human face to face communication is diminishing, and that mobile devices have gone out of control. Social skills and speaking is deteriorating as our tongue freezes up and cannot come up with conversations instantly, whereas it is easier to communicate with texts and writing messages, but I prefer the old fashioned way, where people come together, enjoy, create memories, laugh, talk and do fun things together, to put the phones down and actually verbally do the talking instead of the fingers. I know that it is a personal mobile phone and you can be on it 24 hours a day, but you do not need to be on it constantly.

I feel that smartphones and tablets and the constant changes to technology and gadgets are taking over some peoples lives and they can’t seem to put them down at all, they wake up with it, go to bed with it, they use the washroom with it, they eat dinner while being on them, they use it while at a coffee shop or restaurant among friends 90% of the time people get together and do not look at each others faces, and its just overwhelmingly taken over. what is the point of getting together with people when all that will be done is looking at screens? Where do we draw the line? Its become so bad that when people are physically together, they text each other when they are beside each other, and they communicate with their phone instead of looking at each other and moving their mouths.

I too have a smartphone mobile device, but I know my limits. I do enjoy my mobile device too, but I do not let it control my life, or my way of living. I will not let a screen device take over my life and who I am. Some people need to know limits, and when to put down the phone, like when someone is talking to you, when you are among a group of people, when you are in the washroom and so on and so forth. I sometimes go more than 12 hours without looking at my phone, I sometimes don’t look at it all day, as I do not let it control me.

Although mobile devices are important to have for emergencies and to contact people instantly, but some people overuse it to the point where things get out of hand and disrespecting others who are trying to talk to you when your head is so into that device, and its not healthy especially the radiation it produces. From your point of view, do you limit your use? What are your opinions about this issue? I would love to hear from you.  Know your limit and be within it.

How Dependent We Have Become Of The Internet

Just under 12 hours ago, I realized that It is crazy how dependent we are when it comes to the internet and how hooked people are. Last night Southern and Eastern Ontario, Canada Rogers Communications customers were ousted from an internet power outage that left people going haywire because the internet wasn’t working for a few hours, and a lot of people were angry, yelling, swearing and cursing, well, it depends on what you were doing online at that moment, but ladies and gentlemen, we shouldn’t dedicate our lives to the internet, there is a life out there waiting to be lived and we shouldn’t be so hooked into it, but nowadays technology has surpassed normal face to face communications, and the true essence of being together. That is the unfortunate part. Nothing beats face to face communication and togetherness. Unless your friends and family are hundreds or thousands of miles away and you want to Skype with them and talk to them and keep in touch.

Don’t let the internet take over your life. We bloggers, we social media guru’s, Web designers and all the people who are dependent on the internet, should balance life because being on the internet all day and being on the computer all day is not a great thing. Limit yourself, balance life, time management is key. A lot of people say they do not have the time of day and they say they don’t spend hours and hours online, but then again you see them online. It is a very sad situation we live in. Normal communication is at an all time low because were all in front of TV/computer/laptop/smartphones/tablets/ipad  screens and I have noticed people have speech impairment now, and do not really know what to talk to people about in person, but have an easier chance to talk to someone and come up with topics to talk about while on the internet and that makes it easy to communicate without even looking at each other. It shouldn’t be like that. People should be comfortable talking to each other face to face.

Last night was incredibly insane with all the twitter, facebook, and other social media messages read, with people going crazy because the internet is not available for a few hours. The internet power outage is a sign for people to live life, it is a sad situation and this may be a joke to some people, but it is not a joke. This is a very serious situation were all in. The internet is like a drug addiction and some people really need to butt out. As the years go by, technology has advanced so much that people do not know what to do anymore, and people are always out buying the latest gadgets and everything. I too spend time on the internet and everything, but I know my limits, and I prioritize everything in my life.  I am not saying all of us don’t prioritize, I am not saying that everyone does this. I am saying in general and I am saying to those who do. The internet is such a powerful tool for communications, research, homework, work, assignments, and the biggest information hub of the world and encyclopedia’s and books are not being sold as much. You know how great it felt when I actually opened up my diaries and looked at photos in a normal album? You know how good it was for me to open up things from my past in the boxes I have saved my precious and valuables? Its something that was a great feeling.

All I am saying is that don’t make the internet your life, and don’t be so dependent on it. That is what these carriers and communications networks wants us to do, but in the end your the one who makes the decision, but in my opinion in a unsolicited point of view, it is very important to live life outside the internet, and limit. I am not saying don’t go on the internet when you want to, but just know your limit and be within it.

The Hype Of The iPhone 5 Is Not My Cup Of Tea

It is a crazy gadget world we live in these days. Every year technologists and engineers are coming up with new gadgets and a lot of people are getting indulged by all the ads and the hype about them and now with the iPhone 5 that is out. To be really honest with you all, I do not have a hype for the iPhone 5. It is another way companies make money like Apple. Another thing, that does not sit well with me and which I think is super crazy, people line up for so many hours outside stores to get the latest gadgets and gears whether the weather is cold, rainy, super hot, snowy, people don’t care, they want that gadget on the day, they don’t want to wait a week later or a few weeks down the road when things will be less crazy. People think that they will sell out of things, but things really never sell out. They make you want to buy it, so they always have stock no matter what. I just don’t see the hype of waiting for something for so many hours. It is not worth my time, and it is not worth it. I’d rather wait, then anything. You can always find iPhone 5’s now without hassle. Once its out, its out. Honestly, I see the news and I see pictures online of people waiting for it, and some go on the news and explaining their story on how long they have been waiting and what they have been doing since they have been waiting. I mean come on. That is craziness. I am sorry if it is someone you know, or someone that can relate to what I have said, but It’s the truth. It is complete madness to wait for a gadget that will go on sale later on, or when I can get it later when it is not so chaotic.

Just because a lot of people are getting it, it doesn’t mean I have to follow the circle. I am happy with my blackberry. Yes the battery life isn’t all that great and sometimes their can be faults with the phones, but I like my blackberry. It is doing the job I want with texting, calling and everything. All other times I could care less if it doesn’t have as many features and stuff. I am satisfied with a phone I can communicate with, rather than paying for something that is in style now. Blackberry’s are too, but I will not follow people and I am my own person. So what if I will be out of the loop with iPhone life, No matter what, It is not my cup of tea. I apologize, but really not interested.

Kid’s Are So Spoiled These Days. I Just Never Knew How Much Until Yesterday

So Yesterday, I was out on my regular shopping and I came across this kid who looked like she was 6 or 7 years old and her mother in the same aisle. I was looking at stuff and all of a sudden the kid sees something she likes, and then all of a sudden she says Mommy can I have this? The mother said no you cannot have that, the kid started to make a huge fuss and ask why? I want it now, and treating the mother terribly, then the mother said no again and the child started to cry and scream out, I was just watching this whole thing from afar and I was about to intervene, but I said you know what? I am not going to do anything. The Mother said, that’s it were going home and she said your punished, and I am taking away your cell phone. So they took off without buying anything in the store. The mother got so furious. Never mind all that, but cell phone at age 6-7? You have got to be kidding me right? I was at a loss for words that such a young child who barely got out of playing with baby toys and plastic and in the colouring phase that has a cell phone. I cannot believe how spoiled children have become. They do anything to get what they want, but I really commend this mother who kept saying no to her child. I guess the mother came to a point and put her foot down and not let her have that, but the cell phone thing really turned me off.

I just cannot believe it, I never had my first cell phone until I was 18 years old. I was so happy with my crayons, I was so happy playing with my little dolls, I was so happy with the creativity, and imagination I had when I was a kid. I did crafts, I created so many things, I drew things, I did arts and crafts with glue, coloured paper, and so much more. Now kids rely on technology to do the thinking for them and now everything revolves around keyboards and they cannot do a day without them which is pretty sad. Before I would see a lot more kids outside playing, riding bikes, playing road hockey and doing outdoor things, but now the residential streets are more quiet and kids are inside playing video games or are on the computer or texting with cell phones to other friends. If the parents keep saying yes for the kid to have the latest gadgets and if they parents don’t say no, the child obviously becomes spoiled so much and just one day when you say no, they make a big stink about it in the store, they start to threaten the mother or father at the store, they start to make a big scene, but how will we teach our children about saving money? How will we teach our children about not getting everything their classmates or friends have? How kids should not copy other people and be their own person.

I remember there was so many things that came out, and my parents always taught me just because somebody else has something it doesn’t mean that you should have it too. My parents taught me a lot when I was growing up, and I was content and happy with what I had. They told me that kids in the world don’t have toys to play with, food to eat, and other things in life, and a lot of those children in impoverished countries and places where they don’t have running water, create their own games, create their own toys and play with their friends, relatives, siblings. Its very important to realize that when kids are too spoiled and the parents always say yes to their children and they don’t get what they want, the parents need to sit down and talk to their kids, they need to teach kids values, lessons and tell them to watch videos on how kids live in third world countries, get them to realize that these kids have it so good, they have a roof over their heads, food to eat, and necessities of life. Kids should not complain that they don’t have an Ipod or the latest gaming console, or the latest cell phone or something. They should be fortunate enough and always be thankful to their parents for giving them a good life, for giving them more important things in life rather than material things. Materialism is unbelievable and when kids grow up to be spoiled and always get what they want, then they will do that to their kids and their kids will do that to theirs.

Sit down with your kids, talk to them, do something that will benefit them in the future. Kids should work more on their personalities, morale, quality, and start gaining responsibility. When kids learn at a young age, the future will be bright for them, and when they exercise the good things in life and stop making a big fuss in a store because they didn’t get what they wanted, should be a good lesson. Yesterday when I was shopping like I said with the mother and child who had a cell phone, that did it for me, and I just had to write about it, in today’s blog. I am so concerned on how spoiled kids have gotten and it needs to stop. I cannot stress it enough. Parents give their children a lot of freedom, they give them way too much than they can really handle. It’s time to say no and teach kids that having everything others have is not a great thing. don’t copy other people, be your own person and so what if other kids laugh, it all begins with the big figures in their lives which are their parents. Try it out. spend time with them and teach them. It’s the best way to go.
