Tatevik Sarkisyan is a singer/songwriter/producer/performer based in Toronto, Canada. Her main genres are pop and jazz but she also writes dance music, Latin beats, rock’n’roll and country.

Drellander was born Tatevik Sarkisyan from Armenian parents in Moscow. She began her musical journey at the age of 6 as a choir lead and piano performer at school concerts.

She came to Canada at the age of 16 and became known in the Montreal local community for performing a classical repertoire in 8 languages. At 19 she developed a passion for song-writing and presented to a small audience her first musical composition “Time”.

The singer/songwriter/producer now has more than 160 written songs behind her in a variety of styles.

Tatevik has received great reviews for her work including praise from tenor and McGill voice coach Franco Tenelli who says: “One of Tateviks greatest gifts is a beautiful voice that can be used in almost any style of music including classical and pop. In addition she is also a composer and excellent songwriter. This versatility is a unique gift itself and ensures us we have a real talent.”

At 24 Tatevik moved to Toronto and took on the artist name “Drellander” which sounds like “dreamlander”. In 2004 Tatevik collaborated with writer/film director Robert Wilson on a short film A Dying Fall that aired on CBC in July 2006 and won first place at WorldFest Houston. Tatevik’s multiple credits for this film include art direction, craft services, make-up and wardrobe, contract management as well as playing a small part in the movie. Tatevik worked with Robert at Tamerlane Productions until 2009.

In 2011 she recorded her song Oasis with indie music producer and Indie Week judge Dave Thomson of Digital Underdog Productions and released it on iTunes and Amazon via CD Baby. She also produced a music video for the song (directed and edited by Robert Wilson) that is now available on YouTube.

Tatevik launched Drellander Productions in 2012 and is currently looking for funding for her album. She secured a non-exclusive worldwide publishing deal for her songs with the Canadian publisher Jan Cooper Publishing after Jan Cooper represented her at Midem 2012 in Cannes. In the same year she had a performance at the prestigious Mod Club in Toronto organized by Landmark Media. Her song Oasis was promoted with a 2 week radio blast in Canada and US by Avala DSF (currently under Five2Eight umbrella). In February 2013 she was approached and signed with A & R Select to promote her music on radio, in magazines,TV shows, films and commercials in the US. The week of Aug 12, 2013 “Oasis” had spins on CBC Radio. It played on the CBC Radio programs “Mainstreet” (P.E.I.) and “The Bridge” (Windsor, Ontario).

Oasis is the first single from Drellander’s much anticipated debut album. As A & R Select says in their press release: ” Oasis is a metaphor for finding true love. Its message is inspiring, hopeful and creates a deep connection due to its relatable subject matter. This single has an arrangement of that of a movie soundtrack. It incorporates the depth of her skills, the passion of her writing, the beauty of her voice and has a mesmerizing effect on anyone who has the privilege to experience her music.”

In addition to being trained in music and having collaborated with some of the greatest classical voice/piano/composition teachers and performers such as Tamara Goulina (U of T), Eduardo del Campo (McGill, San Francisco Opera), Franco Tenelli (McGill, Metropolitan Opera), Vania Angelova (University of Montreal), Alexandre Solopov (McGill) and Nina Larionova Shishlova (Bolshoi Theatre), Tatevik has also studied science at McGill University and is a graduate of Touro College business school. She now teaches music and voice and her youngest student is 5 years old.

Tatevik is currently working on a few projects. Recently she co-wrote a ballad with producer/sound engineer Sean Michael Paddison called “I love you anyway” that is to be recorded and released this year. Sean has worked on a wide range of projects, including Grammy-winning, JUNO-winning, billboard charting singles and worldwide airplay. He is currently working with Chris Hau. Drellander also plans to record 3 of her original songs: a pop/classical duet “I can see a lifetime (when I look into your eyes)” with renown opera singer Franco Tenelli, a dance hit “Let the rain fall” with Montreal based producer/sound engineer Michael Makhin and another ballad “I’m so in love with you” with Toronto based producer/songwriter/manager/mentor Peter Linseman. Peter has written, produced & released dozens of national & international singles over the past few decades . He is managing the careers of TV Star/country pop artist Kate Todd and dance pop artist Stephanie Braganza. Peter made international history by writing/producing We Will Fly for Laure Shang, a successful single in China. He has also written & produced for Tanvi Shah (India – 2009 Grammy & Oscar Award winner for Jai Ho from Slumdog Millionaire), international dance pop artist Sarina Paris, international pop & Latin artist Rosita Stone. Peter is a Country Music Association of Ontario (CMAO) founding director, SIPO Foundation founding director and is an Accredited Juror for FACTOR.

Tatevik says: “I believe that my life purpose is to make people smile. Music is the perfect language to communicate emotions and share the love I have for people and life in my heart. Music is universal. It’s the language of feelings and it’s the only language that can break cultural barriers.”

This year Tatevik is participating in CBC Radio’s Searchlight Competition for Canada’s Best New Artist! Voting starts March 31st, 2015. Searchlight Link http://r3.ca/7lpK

Introducing You the Talented SuperStar Robert Chilingirian

In the past 20 plus years, I have been listening to music from my Armenian culture and background, and I got introduced to many performers and artists, but some have been captivating, capturing my heart, mind and soul, and one of them is the Talented Superstar Robert Chilingirian. After many years of listening to his music, I began to search for him on the Internet, and when I was on the MySpace website back in 2006, 2007 is where I found Robert, and I began to communicate with him One on One for many years. Since then we have become great friends. Social media has become a great tool to communicate and its been great.

Throughout the years, Robert has completed over 21 albums, written, composed many songs, created music videos, some are especially dedicated to the Armenian Genocide, our late and beloved Artist who passed away almost 3 years ago named Paul Baghdadlian, and so many other songs that are so meaningful to Robert and his journey through his musical career. Robert has traveled the world, and he says that Traveling, and seeing the world is great, but getting to know many and different people around the world is what it is all about. Robert is a well-rounded, down to earth, humble person whom I have had the pleasure of meeting twice now. Just recently when he came to Canada, to my town of Toronto, I had the pleasure of seeing him, and talking with him. He is such a kind-hearted man. I am ever so glad to have met him. I had the pleasure of meeting one of Robert’s Dancers in his videos Teria Morada a few years ago and that also was a great moment. I had met Robert in 2010 and now 2014. Best moments.

Robert also plays the bouzouki, guitar, and his energy is automatically felt throughout the crowds he entertains. He entertains in private functions, weddings, different parties and so much more.

In Robert’s Albums, he writes, create your own, be a leader, never a follower which is so true. If we all create the same things or close to them, things would be boring and not interesting, so be your own leader, and never follow others. Just be yourself, and go with the flow of what life has to offer. In the near future, I hope to see him again soon and reconnect. I wish Robert continued success, I wish him safe travels around the world, and God give him strength to do what he loves. God Bless you Robert and wishing you the very best my Brother.

Madonna’s Photo Post of Her 13 yr old Son Holding Alcohol – So Wrong

On Saturday January 4th, 2014, as you may or may not have heard with this news circulating on the television and on the internet social media, It was reported that Madonna had posted a controversial photo of her Son Rocco who is 13 years old posing with a bottle of Alcohol.  Soon after that photo went viral and so many thousands of people have seen it. Madonna then said, nobody was drinking, we were just having fun. Then she quoted, calm down and get a sense of humor. Then she said, do not start the year off with Judgement.

My opinion on this is, that it is so wrong, no matter if nobody was drinking, it is still wrong to hold an alcoholic bottle, especially in an underage persons hand. What are people who sees this picture to think about it? What are people supposed to do? Sit there and stay quiet? It doesn’t matter how humorous something can be to some people, it can be serious to others. This is not something to joke about, especially when it comes to alcohol. That sends out a message to other teenagers who are underage, that they can do the same thing too, then post it online for the world to see, then having people on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and other people around the world can view it, then the school, and the parents can get a hold of that picture quite easily. Yesterday, I had written about spreading rumors and being careful of what to post online. This is something else that needs to carefully be thought of before posting it.

Madonna should have known better then having to post that picture online. A mother should not allow her son/daughter act that way, even if it is just for show, and actually taking a picture. Okay if you are going to take a picture, at least do not share and post it to the world, and especially on social media. It sends out the wrong message making it okay for everybody to do the same. It is not something to joke about. Of course people will be judging and giving their opinions, just like I am right now. You cannot expect people to be encouraging this type of behavior. Remember, what gets posted online is there forever, and now that picture Madonna has posted has landed in many peoples computers, It has landed all over the internet. Where do we draw the line here? It should be illegal for even posing with alcohol and at 13? Come on! That is just sickening.

Society these days is saturated with things like this, some people do not know their limits, some people post anything and everything, whether if its true or not, whether its disturbing or not, whether its something that can be trouble or not, Its just terrible and ridiculous, and especially for a parent behaving that way is uncalled for. That is just asking for trouble. That teenager and those young children who see that, will say, Okay, let me go to my dad or mom’s liquor cabinet, and take a picture of myself and post it online. Nowadays, children and teenagers are so bright with technology, that they will know a way to post pictures, and then if that picture gets in the wrong hands, there can be serious consequences, and in the end the parents will be in trouble and that family will be in jeopardy. I think that social media is spiraling out of control and make it seem okay to post every little thing, well, its not okay. Especially when it comes to Alcohol and other things.

I do like Madonna’s music, and I have grown up with her music, but I must say this stunt, just caught me off guard. She should have known better. That is all I know and that is all I think about this.
