Smartphones and Tablets — Have They Taken Over Our Lives?

As mobile devices serve a good purpose in life to communicate with others with texting, calling, spending time with apps, and having fun with them, but there should be limits. I feel that human face to face communication is diminishing, and that mobile devices have gone out of control. Social skills and speaking is deteriorating as our tongue freezes up and cannot come up with conversations instantly, whereas it is easier to communicate with texts and writing messages, but I prefer the old fashioned way, where people come together, enjoy, create memories, laugh, talk and do fun things together, to put the phones down and actually verbally do the talking instead of the fingers. I know that it is a personal mobile phone and you can be on it 24 hours a day, but you do not need to be on it constantly.

I feel that smartphones and tablets and the constant changes to technology and gadgets are taking over some peoples lives and they can’t seem to put them down at all, they wake up with it, go to bed with it, they use the washroom with it, they eat dinner while being on them, they use it while at a coffee shop or restaurant among friends 90% of the time people get together and do not look at each others faces, and its just overwhelmingly taken over. what is the point of getting together with people when all that will be done is looking at screens? Where do we draw the line? Its become so bad that when people are physically together, they text each other when they are beside each other, and they communicate with their phone instead of looking at each other and moving their mouths.

I too have a smartphone mobile device, but I know my limits. I do enjoy my mobile device too, but I do not let it control my life, or my way of living. I will not let a screen device take over my life and who I am. Some people need to know limits, and when to put down the phone, like when someone is talking to you, when you are among a group of people, when you are in the washroom and so on and so forth. I sometimes go more than 12 hours without looking at my phone, I sometimes don’t look at it all day, as I do not let it control me.

Although mobile devices are important to have for emergencies and to contact people instantly, but some people overuse it to the point where things get out of hand and disrespecting others who are trying to talk to you when your head is so into that device, and its not healthy especially the radiation it produces. From your point of view, do you limit your use? What are your opinions about this issue? I would love to hear from you.  Know your limit and be within it.

The Talk on CBS – My Love For The Show

Last year in 2012, I was flipping through the channels on television and suddenly I stopped flipping when I saw this show, and I automatically fell in love with it. I really like Julie Chen, Ayesha Tyler, Sharon Osborne, Sara Gilbert, and Sheryl Underwood. I like the topics they bring to the table and it really gets you to think and I really like hearing their opinions on certain issues of the world and getting their take on these issues were facing. These ladies of the Talk are lovely, beautiful, and bring so much talent, so much energy and I watch their show everyday and I try not to miss an episode. Although I was late tuning into the show, that I know its been on for a few year now, but I am glad I did flip those channels when I did. I hope one day I will get to go to see a show or be on the show in Los Angeles and contribute my thoughts and opinions of mine for whatever issues arise when they speak on the table.

I have a tremendous amount of respect and love for The Talk. CBS has some great shows and I am a big fan of CBS. I am very happy to spend an hour a day of my life with these beautiful ladies. I feel like they are my sisters on TV. I hope to one day meet these lovely ladies Julie, Ayesha, Sheryl, Sharon and Sara. I love you all very much. Thank you for bringing happiness and joy into my life. You all inspire me. All the best to The Talk and continued success. Love, Talin Orfali

Being Yourself Is The Best Thing You Can Wear

Today, I was having a conversation with myself and usually I have conversations with myself from time to time when I am busy with cleaning the house, cooking, doing laundry, and just taking time for myself and discovering new things, new thoughts about myself, and I came to a discovery about something very clever and something to think about. I have always told people to always be themselves, and there is nothing better than being who you are and not being somebody you aren’t.There is nothing in the world more rewarding than that. People sometimes get distracted, discouraged to being who they are and things happen in life to them that make them feel that being ones self is something they don’t want to do because of something they have been through, a traumatic experience, but let me assure you, being yourself is something that you should only possess. If you possess anybody else personality, then where do you stand in the world? You were born to stand out and lead. If you keep on being like everybody else, then there is nothing new to see.

Don’t try so hard to fit in, don’t try so hard to impress others. Look in the mirror everyday and smile. Say I am me, I am who I am, and I came to this world like this and I am proud and happy of me. Don’t let others dictate your life and who you are, don’t let others tell you what to be, don’t let others make your life decisions for you, don’t let others pressure you into doing things you do not want to do. We all have a voice, we all have a choice, but being yourself should always be your first and only choice. Have people in your life that will appreciate you for you, and have people in your life that will support you and your decisions, who will back you up, who will guide you through, but at the same time not keep telling you what to do. You can only do so much for people, but in the end everyone has their own lives to live. Some people may take longer than others to adapt into society, some people may take longer or shorter time to do things, and to get things going in life, but in the end you are you, and everyone has their own journey of life. You have to be patient with people. Sometimes you may not know the path they are walking and what they have been through to get to those paths and walking in their shoes.

It is easy to talk and put so many things in other people’s minds and tell them and advise them, but sometimes you have to let someone discover things on their own. You can only tell someone so much, but then after the ball is in their court and its up to them how they want to control that field, but always be yourself in the process, and always dress for success. When you are yourself, when you are honest, and don’t lie to yourself or anybody else, that is the best way to dress for life. Dressing to be yourself is the best outfit you can ever wear more than anything else in the world.

Today, I came with a new twist on this topic and I was also thinking about a movie I watched with Hillary Duff, Regina King, and a few other actors in the movie, but I forgot what the movie was called. Anyway, when at the end of the movie Hillary Duff asked her friend, what are you wearing today? Her friend said, Myself. That was something that has been on my mind today and I decided to write about it today. It is true what was said is to always wear who you are 24/7 365 days a year and never letting negative influence deter you away from who you are. So I had a conversation similar to the movie I watched last night. It goes a little something like this:

Person #1: What are you dressed as today?
Person #2: Myself
Person #1: Well, that is the best thing you can wear.
Person #2: There is nothing better than being myself
Person #1: I totally agree. I really like that look on you.
Person #2: Thanks. I will wear it everyday 24/7 365 days a year.

I really believe in that and so should everybody else. Be yourself, and you will see the difference the world makes. Smile, be happy with you and don’t try to be someone you aren’t. All the best to you.

What Is Social Media To You? What Is Social Media To Me?

In this day in age and in modern society, social media is at an all time high. Most of us in the world are connected through some social media website whether its twitter, Facebook, pinterest, tumblr, WordPress, Google+, Blogger, Blogspot, MySpace, Hi5, and so many more websites out there to cater our social media, communications needs. Now social media can be used to boost business, advertising ones self, giving tips, advising people, about a hobby, society, issues, subjects, technology, and so much more. We are all in an interface of social media in some form or another. E-mail is also a part of social media.

Now, what does social media mean to me? Well, social media to me means that I can share myself with the world, that I can give my points of views about certain topics and things that happen in the world, also about targeting important subjects leading to prevention of bullying, as well as other social issues that I need to address too. Were all on a social media front and it all depends on a persons individuality, feelings, freedom of expression on certain subjects, among everything else. To me, social media is such a great tool to have. You never know who might pop by your blog, you never know who is viewing your blog and it is always a mystery and if someone from a big company or somewhere sees the great work and time you put into something and if somebody sees something interesting, they will contact you to talk about it or offer you something so incredible. It’s happened to me numerous times. I love expressing myself and social media has given me such a boost to do it.

I am not afraid to share and give out my opinions as everyone is entitled to their own opinions and people should not be penalized for it, and its great to see people share different points of views on certain subjects that can be relative to them or just simply just discussing it. I love social media because I get to meet some really great people and I get to interact with so many different types of people all at once. Its incredible how social media has boomed especially the last 5-10 years. Social media sites began as far as Asian Avenue, Migente, Black Planet, Hi5, MySpace, Geocities from Yahoo, and so many other websites I can remember from back in the day and now Facebook and Twitter are on the rise. It is incredible how social media changes. Social media always has its ups and downs, but in the end were all in it, and social media is defined in so many ways and it depends on individuality on what it means to someone.

Now its all comes down to you, what does social media mean to you? What do you use it for? for communicating with loved ones? Finding different opinions from others? looking at pictures, finding information, learning, Interacting on the internet and constantly being updated with news? Do you find Social Media a rewarding and fun experience? I would love to hear from you on it.

All the best!
