This past weekend, we learned that the NHL (National Hockey League), is back from the lockout and they will start playing games, but nearly 4 months later and 113 days after the lockout, a lot of people, fans, and jobs were effected and the damage has been done. A lot of die hard fans are no longer fans, and I saw the comments people have left on message, discussion forums online, and I sympathize especially for those workers who work in the arena’s, servers, and among the fans who really believed in the players and the whole game. Everything is about money now, and there isn’t anything patriotic anymore, the true meaning of hockey, and the game has died down a lot, sales of merchandise has declined, and some people who had season tickets, fans who decorated their home with NHL logos and hockey everywhere have taken it down and some sold the items, people just don’t really care anymore about The League and I don’t blame them. I am one of them and I don’t care.
These Owners, CEO’s, Managers, Players of NHL have their millions of dollars just to pass around a puck for 60 minutes and all the teams per game. Greedy people who want more and more, couldn’t even come to an agreement, acting like children, Where as doctors, teachers, nurses, don’t even get paid that much. I mean where do we draw the line? Where is the passion, dedication, and patriotic approach to all this? Its all about Money. It is making me so sick to my stomach that hard working individuals like us ordinary people, and these guys they get all the praise because they are famous and they are on ice. I really do not care anymore about this game, about the league. I will not spend my time watching and supporting these people. They have lost a lot of people, and the kids too. These kids were interviewed on the news and they said that NHL Sucks and they said they don’t like it anymore. This put a big scar in the sporting industry and people don’t trust it anymore. I am very sick and tired of greediness.
Now the NHL is back, what is the point? Might as well as cancel the season because April is when Playoffs begin, it is ridiculous. They already lost me and my family as fans of NHL, and among some of my friends. We just don’t care anymore. Were done like dinner.
That’s how I was after the baseball strike a few years ago. I never did really got over it. I tried to explain the hockey strike to my 6-year-old. He said, “They’re getting paid to play hockey! They should go play!”
We feel the same way in Michigan as the Red Wings get back on the ice. Who cares?
I totally feel the same way. It’s hard to be a fan of the leafs for obvious reasons, and this just solitifies my dislike for the NHL, although i love the sport of hockey. I’ll still be a pationate fan of our national team, but truthfully just can’t stomach watching the leafs.
I get really upset when I think about the pay these folks make. Yet I still love college football. They do not get paid (well maybe they do under the table), but it does unnerve me the whole thing…I wish we would get our priorities right the whole LOT of us…haha
Maybe it should be the fans’ turn to go on strike?
It really is a shame. I love to watch hockey, love the B’s, but I really could care less at this point. If we watch now it’s going to be because football season will be over and baseball hasn’t started yet.
all of these lockouts can happen because the FANS spends thousands of dollars on these sports… and the money is going to the players…coaches…and franchises. It is so unfortunate but the fans will still continue to spend money etc…. ONLY IN AMERICA!! lol
It is so true what you have written about the greed and money it is not only Hockey other the greed is in other sports also like baseball and basket ball these sports are in a higher pay bracket and many other companies will jump on the wagon and make money unfortunately the little people who work thee for a living or even small businesses would go bankrupt.
As far as the fans..yes most of them are disgusted and will not watch as much but eventually people will come back and forget what happened, this is the human nature and a true fan will come back cause it is the game that they love and for some parents will be the future of their kids in Hockey..with that note let’s say GO LEAFS GO !!!!!
Hello! I so enjoy reading and following your blog. I too am upset about the NHL. I just want a few chances to see Sydney Crosby play. The greed is sickening! The NHL is back? 😉
Have you ever considered about adding a little bit more than just
your articles? I mean, what you say is important and all. Nevertheless just imagine
if you added some great graphics or videos to give your posts more, “pop”!
Your content is excellent but with images and clips, this site could definitely be one of
the very best in its field. Wonderful blog!
In the late 90’s when the U.S. economy couldn’t be stopped, the NHL thought the same and expanded into markets like South Florida and Arizona. Big mistake and they’ve been paying for it ever since.
